Digital Cable Telecomms & Telephony Installation

Overview

The most technologically advanced and equipped course available in the UK. The course covers a range of disciplines within the field of broadband digital cable telecommunications. Including teaching students how to install, service and maintain a range of services provided by the cable operators digital TV, telephony and broadband internet access, This course is used by the cable operators to train their own staff.

Duration - 5 Days.

We take you beyond the City & Guilds qualification to keep you abreast of the latest technological developments and ensure that you have the theoretical input to understand the whole picture. The course is suitable for beginners and for those who wish to enhance existing skills and qualifications.
 
Course Content

Modules are split into the following groups:

Module 1
Introduction and Overview

You will learn:

· The organisational structure of the UK cable industry

· The types of information carried by cable networks

· Present and future aspects of the industry

Module 2
Transmission Theory & Practice of Digital & Analogue Cable Networks

You will learn:

· Resistance Circuits and Ohms Law

· AC Waveforms

· Decibels and Reference Levels

· Digitising Analogue Information and Data Signal Generation

· Modulation Techniques, PCM, QAM, QPSK, COFDM, AM, FM

· Analogue and Digital Television Signals, MPEG-2 Encoding

· Digital CATV and Telephony System Topology (Digital Media Centre, Regional Headends and Hub Sites)

· Fibre Nodes and Repeater Amplifiers

· Coaxial and Optical Fibre Cables and Associated Components

· CNR and Bit Error Ratio

· Forward and Reverse Paths

· Functions and Subscriber Installed Equipment - Set Top Box, Cable Modem

· Test Equipment






 


Module 3
Transmission Theory & Practice of Analogue & Digital Telephony

You will learn:
· Telephony theory (analogue and digital), ISDN, access and core networks

· Basic elements of TDM systems - switching, multiplexing, PDH, SDH, basic and primary rates, ISDN 2 Mbs circuits, ADSL and ATM

· Functions of customer installed equipment - telephone circuit, Centrex, Fax

Module 4
Installation, Testing & Diagnostics of Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) Services & Telephony

You will:

· Survey the installation, the drop path

· Install services to subscribers' homes including broadband internet access

· Install Cable Modems

· Commission and test the DVB Installation and Modem

· Fault find and trouble shoot, error messages and engineering screens

You will learn:

· Preparation and administration procedures

· All customer care aspects

· Wayleave a uthorisation

· Health and safety aspects

· All types of cable used, handling and pulling methods

· All specialised tools and equipment

· Use of test equipment

· Work orders and work practices

Module 5
Fibre Optics Theory & Practice

You will:

· Prepare fibre optic cable for splicing and connectorisation

· Joint and connectorise fibre optic cable · Splice fibre optic cables using fusion splicing techniques

· Test fibre optic links

You will learn:

· All health and safety aspects

· Recommend Installation procedures

Module 6
City & Guilds 6165 New Road and Street Works Act

This is a mandatory requirement for personnel employed by most telecommunication companies

You will learn:

· Signing, guarding and lighting
